Common questions

What size heat pump do I need?

It depends on the size of the room, how well the house is insulated, how much glass there is and how cold it gets where you live. Inland Canterbury winters are colder than in the city, so we size for that. We'll measure up and recommend the right size, rather than guessing from floor area alone.

Will a heat pump work on frosty Canterbury mornings?

Yes. Modern heat pumps keep heating well below freezing outside, as long as the unit is chosen and sized for it. That matters more in Selwyn and the foothills than it does in town.

Can a heat pump cool the house in summer too?

Yes. A heat pump works as an air conditioner in summer, so one unit keeps you warm in winter and cool on hot nor'west days.

Where should the heat pump go?

The indoor unit needs to push air into the space you use without blasting anyone directly, and the outdoor unit needs good airflow and a sensible spot for noise and drainage. We'll go through the options with you on site.

Do rental properties need a heat pump?

Under the Healthy Homes standards, rentals need a fixed heater in the main living room that can heat it to at least 18°C. A heat pump is the most common way landlords meet this. We can size and install one to suit.
